Murray Bridge local and Shukokai Karate Association (SKA) student Destiny Harris, an up and coming Contemporary Aboriginal Artist, captured beautifully the story of everyone travelling near and far to the dojo in the heart of the Murray (River).
When Shukokai Karate Association wanted to deepen their roots within region through story telling and celebrating their students identity and culture, what better way than to incorporate Contemporary Aboriginal Art into their branding.
Destiny Harris, along with her brother William joined SKA in June of 2022 where Mum Kylie brings them to training every week. With them rarely missing a lesson, Destiny and William are now 4th Kyu (Purple Belt) and training towards 3rd Kyu (Brown Belt).
When asked, Destiny of Ngarrindjeri, Bundjalung and Arrente descent, happily agreed to create a story through her art. One picture represents Sensei Dave and Claire with everyone travelling near and far to the dojo in the heart of the Murray (River). The other (the Black Swan) represents us all meeting at the dojo near the river.
Needless to say, SKA is blown away by the time, effort and creativity that went into these pictures and would like to
thank Destiny and her family for the opportunity to use these artistic cultural expressions.
